A heritage-sensitive refurbishment shaped through collaboration and thoughtful FF&E design.

Thomas’s London Day Schools is one of the UK’s most respected independent school groups, known for its academic excellence and strong heritage identity. Their college in Richmond, ‘Thomas’s College’, underwent a significant multi building refurbishment to refresh a broad mix of learning and boarding environments across a Grade II listed estate.

Showcase PSR was appointed to deliver the full FF&E package in partnership with IID Architects and Renovo. The brief called for a cohesive furniture solution that was durable, practical and sensitive to the character of the existing architecture, while supporting the school’s vision for modern, flexible teaching spaces.

Scope & Services

The works covered FF&E consultancy, furniture specification, finishes selection, product sourcing, supplier coordination, and full delivery and installation across four buildings: the Main Building, Red House, Longley and the Sir Cyril Taylor Library.

Spaces included:

  • Classrooms and science labs
  • Sixth form study areas
  • DT studios and specialist teaching spaces
  • Dining areas and boarding rooms
  • Communal and staff zones

Working closely with IID Architects, the team refined the specification through a series of collaborative design sessions to ensure materials, finishes and product selections aligned with the heritage-led interior scheme. A mix of robust off the shelf solutions and carefully sourced specialist pieces were incorporated to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional outcome across a wide variety of teaching and residential settings.

Sustainability played an important role, with recycled-content fabrics, long-life furniture and optimised logistics helping reduce the project’s environmental impact.

Success Points

Soft, natural finishes and timeless materials were chosen to complement the period architecture while still delivering modern functionality. Across teaching and boarding environments, the furniture supports comfort, flexibility and everyday durability.

Key items included KI Postura seating for long-term resilience and Zioxi’s technology integrated desks for digital teaching spaces. Additional soft seating, study furniture and residential pieces were curated to enhance the student experience throughout the campus.

Alongside core suppliers, PSR integrated specialist items from additional trusted sources to achieve specific aesthetic requirements and ensure every space felt both intentional and cohesive.

With four buildings in use and varied space types, PSR delivered structured installation planning, phased delivery and close communication with project partners to ensure everything was installed exactly where and when it was needed.

Open dialogue, shared goals and hands on collaboration were central to the success of the project. This unified approach ensured consistency in design across all buildings and supported an efficient, well coordinated programme.

The Thomas’s College project reflects Showcase PSR’s commitment to delivering thoughtful, durable and beautifully integrated FF&E solutions for the education sector. Through close collaboration with IID Architects, Renovo and the school’s project team, PSR helped shape a refreshed, future-ready environment that respects the campus’s heritage while supporting modern learning needs.
