UAL enlisted Showcase PSR to explore the inventive solutions deployed in transforming the post-COVID working landscape of the London College of Fashion.
Scope & Services
Embarking on a transformative journey, PSR partnered with UAL/LCF to revolutionise their post-COVID workspace. The narrative unfolds through inclusive engagement sessions, ensuring collaboration from start to finish.
Our mission was to infuse a contemporary feel into teaching, breakout, and functional spaces across the expansive 15 floors of the prestigious Eastbank development. A Revit design process mapped out areas, including teaching spaces, breakouts, a library, a café, and inviting terraces.
Our team’s expertise extended to strategically incorporating legacy furniture, providing the university with a visual roadmap for the use and location of its existing products delivered from other sites. The coordination transitioned from furniture schedule and procurement to delivery and installation.
In addition to of loose FF&E, the client asked for our advice and support on a fixed furniture package that they were struggling with both cost and timescale from the contractor. We undertook a full consultancy process to run alongside the main project, meeting with stakeholders and developing the designs, specifications, and materiality required for the different product solutions. Solutions within the package included material racks, beauty teaching stations, reception counters, AV housing, dark rooms, body scanner room, and library corrals.
Working with a trusted supply partner we were able to achieve the deadline as well as achieve a minimised cost in comparison to the initial quotation.
A commitment to sustainability was evident in material choices, featuring innovative options such as Smile Plastics. Showcase PSR and local manufacturers collaborated on a bespoke design archive and materials library.
Success Points
Throughout the development process, our project management team regularly surveyed the site to ensure alignment between furniture deliveries and construction completion.
With a deadline date for the start of term teaching date, we collaborated with all parties to establish a plan, phasing deliveries to floor completion dates, and agreement to work alongside the construction work.
Showcase PSR upheld active communication with the construction partner, AV supplier, and move
management company throughout.
Additional protection was implemented to ensure that products were kept in new condition, and daily reports to assist with product sign-off and provide updates for the client.
Through collaborative working we were able to achieve a full phased installation under site conditions, with no damaged items due to the construction work, a testament to our team’s diligence and hard work.
