Situated in Birmingham’s Selly Oak, the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus has emerged as a focal point for UK healthcare innovation. Spanning 130,000 square feet over six floors, the new campus brings together academic excellence, advanced research, and commercial expertise, housing the University of Birmingham and Bruntwood SciTech. With a strong focus on biopharma, genomics, and precision medicine, the facility is purpose-built to support translational medicine from lab to real-world application.

As part of this forward-thinking development, Showcase PSR was selected to deliver a comprehensive furniture package that not only met the technical demands of a high-performance healthcare environment but also helped them to reach their goal of making Birmingham a leader in life sciences.

Scope & Services

From initial engagement, the Showcase PSR team worked in close collaboration with the main contractor Sisk, the architectural visionaries at Sheppard Robson, and key stakeholders from the University and Bruntwood SciTech. The brief called for full-scale spatial planning, technical visuals, and a design approach sensitive to both user experience and teaching requirements.

Showcase PSR provided detailed 2D and 3D plans, including Revit models, to ensure each environment. From research laboratories and clinical-grade spaces to office zones, meeting areas, and breakout cafés, the space was furnished for functionality and flexibility. The selection of specialist furniture from over 30 premium manufacturers reflected a balance of durability, innovation, and aesthetic clarity, in line with the overall design vision.

Day-to-day project management on-site enabled straight-forward collaboration with contractors and other suppliers, ensuring the integration of power and flooring systems aligned with install requirements.

Success Points

This was Showcase PSR’s first partnership with Sisk, and quickly became one built on open communication, shared standards, and a clear commitment. The result is a well-designed, fully operational space that supports inclusive working practices and top tier scientific research.

Showcase PSR maintained complete control over delivery and execution, preserving quality while aligning with the project’s broader goals.
