How Vepa and Peeze Are Brewing a Sustainable Future

By March 27, 2025Uncategorized

At first glance, a partnership between a furniture manufacturer and a coffee roastery might seem like an unlikely pairing. But when Vepa joined forces with Peeze Coffee Roastery, the result was more than just a creative collaboration – it was a circular success story. Together, they transformed what was once waste into a stylish, eco-friendly innovation: the Vepa Fine Coffee Range.

Peeze, based in Arnhem, sources its coffee beans from sustainable plantations around the world. Each year, countless beans arrive in sturdy jute sacks, which were traditionally discarded after use. But with Vepa’s cutting-edge production techniques, these sacks have found a second life – woven into the very fabric of high-quality chairs and barstools that blend sustainability with sleek design.

Sustainability at Its Core
Building on the foundation of Vepa’s original Hemp chair, the Hemp Coffee collection takes sustainability a step further. By replacing the traditional hemp outer layer with pressed jute coffee sacks, each chair carries a distinct aesthetic while remaining 100% plant-based. The seats combine hemp fibers, organic resin, and jute, creating a durable and environmentally responsible alternative to conventional furniture.

“At Peeze, we believe in the power of recycling,” says Rik van Paassen, Sustainability Manager at Peeze. “Through this collaboration with Vepa, we’ve given our coffee sacks a second life in a way that perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainability.”

Thoughtful Design, Endless Possibilities
The Hemp Coffee collection offers a variety of models, each catering to different spaces and styles:

• Hemp Fine Coffee – Coffee sack exterior

• Hemp High Coffee – Coffee sack inside and outside

• Hemp Medium Coffee – Coffee sack exterior + upholstered seat pad

• Hemp 400 Coffee – Coffee sack inside and outside + upholstered seat pad

• Hemp 400 High Coffee – Taller variation with the same sustainable construction

With customisable frame colors, upholstery choices, and accessories, the collection is designed to fit seamlessly into offices, cafés, and collaborative spaces, proving that sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing style.

A Fully Circular Approach
But the innovation doesn’t stop with materials. The Hemp Coffee collection is produced entirely in-house at Vepa’s facility in Emmen, ensuring:

• Minimal transport emissions
• Consistent quality control
• Support for local employment

By rethinking waste, reducing emissions, and reshaping design, Vepa and Peeze have brewed up a model for the future, where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.

At PSR, we’re always drawn to furniture with a story. That’s why we proudly featured the Vepa Fine Coffee Range recently on our LUPC SUPC Conference exhibition stand, highlighting it as a leading example of circular design in action.

We’re excited to see what’s next from Vepa as they continue to shape the industry, one coffee sack at a time. For now, we’re proud to feature them as this month’s Product Spotlight, underlining their commitment to sustainable innovation
